KYEngineer asked about running a webserver on Ubuntu Server in Virtualbox. He had the port forwarding setup but couldn't access the server. Here are a couple of suggestions. First make sure ATT U-Verse doesn't block port 80 or whatever port you are using. I'm not familiar with U-Verse, but I doubt it's blocked.

Secondly, on the virtual machine, make sure that the network adapter settings are for a Bridged Adapter and not NAT. Using NAT will create a subnet for the virtual machines, which won't be accessible to the outside world, at least ports < 1024 won't. A Bridged Adapter will use an IP address (if DHCP or DHCP Reservation) from your DHCP Server, which is most likely your router, and not the internal Virtualbox subnet. If you use a static IP, make sure the IP isn't in the DHCP Pool on your server/router and is on the same subnet of the rest of the home network.

Virtualbox has great online documentation and I would refer to it, but the above should get the web server working.

Thanks, Ken. That setting for VirtualBox is what I was looking for. I was sure it was there. I just didn't know what it was, so that I could let kyengineer know about it.

Hello Ken,
Thanks for the help. I'll make sure the settings are right.
